This is responsible for exploring and assessing mineral prospects in order to form a basis for developing the mineral and mining industry in the country for further advanced exploration by both the public and private sectors.

The division is further organised into three sections as follows:

1. Geochemical section,
2. Geophysical section
3. Mineral Evaluation and Economic Geology Section.
